Champulado for Chamorro Week!

Reflecting on the second lesson plan made me have many ideas from Dr. Cyrus class. Using all the information given by her were the most powerful words that can help me and my classmates teach with technology. As a future educator, I need some alternative way to help and guide these students learn productively. And what I mean is using multimedia as a tool to wow the students using hands on, creating collages, creating videos, etc… Starting with my second lesson plan, I had used my first lesson plan to create my second. The reason I chose this was because I wanted to improve on my first lesson plan.
Since I did not write a reflection paper on my first lesson plan, it is basically about having students do simple fractions with the ingredients to make large amount of Champulado (Chamorro Rice Pudding) for Chamorro week. On Guam, the month of March is known as Chamorro month. In my high school years, we always celebrated Chamorro week where we dress up in mu-mu’s (for girls), husk a coconut (for boys), dances, games, making all types of Chamorro food such as red rice, kelaguen, titiyas (tortillas), chicken estafao, chicken adobo, etc… This is part of our culture and we celebrated like one big fiesta wherever you’re at.
Back to my second lesson plan, I decided to have my students bring some of the ingredients and some multimedia equipment such as video camcorder or camera etc… My purpose of this exercise is to have the students make a video of themselves making Champulado knowing how multiply fractions of the ingredients explaining through the camera like they are on the “Emeril live” or “Every day Italian.” This will entice the student’s with the hands-on, cooking, acting, learning to be in groups, and more importantly is the ability to multiply fractions without using a calculator. I believe the students can benefit in their own way by having the technology tools at hand. I feel that standard III of the NETS*T standard’s applies to my assignment. I learned that planning this lesson activity was a way to get students motivated in learning by using multimedia equipments. I used my video camcorder for a lot of events and remembered filming a soccer game and made a movie using windows movie maker. This was one of my ideas that would make it interesting for the students. What I like about this assignment was that it had to deal with multimedia equipments and that the students had to make my favorite Chamorro dessert for their assignment. The least about this assignment is the time limitation which might be a hassle for the students, and finding out if the students understood how multiply fractions. This would make my assignment complicated since they need to practice on their fractions.

Assessment on 8 websites

Google.com-
Google has been my regular search engine for just about anything. It's been about 8 years since I have been using google. I do not see any flaws with Google and I do not intend to find one. Google has been a great help to me with all my work since I started college. Kudos to GOOGLE!

Moodle.com-
I just learned about "moodle" at GCC last year. I haven't been to learn everything about it. So it's still new to me. UOG's moodle looks similar to GCC. The only flaw i can think of is that there is too much text.

Firefox.com-
I haven't been really using firefox that much. I know sometimes it takes too long to load up. I've been using iexplorer which seems to be more comfortable to me. I do not see much flaws in firefox and I know for sure it does block popups.

delicious.com-
This is the first time I ever used delicious.com. I am still new at it and still browsing on it. I know for sure, it will be a useful tool for me for all my education courses.

Slideshare.com-
This is also another site that is new. I heard about it but not use it. I only uploaded one project for this class. So basically, this is still new and still learning how to apply it.

Dictionary.com-
This site is very useful when you need to define a word. It helps me how to pronounce the words, it features thesaurus, translations, and reference for the definition. It also features the word of the day and reference center. This is a great way to look up words.

Webmath.com-
webmath has helped me in solving math questions. It showed me step by step in solving the math question. The only thing about this website is too wordy. It's more for highschool to post secondary school. It's pretty easy to use.

Math.com-
This website is use for students who have trouble for math. It is good because it has basically has games to exercise the brain, practice simulators and you can get graded or scores whether you did good on the practice problems. I have fun with this website. The only problem with this website is that the font size of some text are big that covers the other texts. So it is hard to read sometimes. Overall, this is a good math online practice for students.
